DECOLAB works across the boundaries of design, research and practice. We collaborate with governments, communities, universities, cultural institutions, civil-society organisations, businesses, researchers and practitioners to develop new ways of understanding and responding to complex spatial, social and environmental challenges.

We undertake commissioned work across spatial equity and justice, participatory design and community engagement, spatial strategy and design, research and policy, and learning and capacity building.
We can support organisations through research and evidence development, consultation and engagement, spatial and design strategies, policy development, evaluation, workshops, training and place-based interventions.
We welcome partnerships with governments, universities, communities, NGOs, cultural organisations, industry and international networks.
Partnerships may range from individual projects and knowledge-exchange programmes to longer-term research, design and capacity-building collaborations.
We are particularly interested in collaborations that bring together different disciplines, geographies and forms of knowledge to address questions of spatial justice, climate, inclusion and the future of places.
Research is central to DECOLAB’s practice.
We welcome approaches from researchers, universities and prospective fellowship applicants interested in developing collaborative research at the intersection of design, spatial justice, climate, participatory practice and decolonial thinking.
Depending on the requirements of individual funding schemes, DECOLAB may participate as a research partner, practice partner, collaborating organisation or placement host, and we welcome conversations with researchers interested in developing fellowship and research proposals with us.
Where a fellowship requires an eligible academic host institution, we can explore collaborative arrangements with appropriate university partners.
DECOLAB is also a collaboratorium — a space for dialogue, experimentation and collective learning.
We welcome researchers, designers, practitioners, students and community-based knowledge holders interested in contributing to our Decolonial Dialogues, Reimagining Narratives and Global Studio platforms.
Opportunities may include collaborative projects, workshops, talks, publications, creative programmes, and other forms of knowledge exchange.
