disrupting the core

Design | Research | Strategy

The enduring legacies of colonial histories continue to shape how places are imagined, designed, researched and transformed. DECOLAB is a global decolonial collaboratorium and interdisciplinary design, research and strategy consultancy committed to creating more just, inclusive and sustainable futures.

Grounded in decolonial thinking, we bring together critical research, strategic design and participatory practice to address complex spatial, social and environmental challenges. We work with communities, governments, institutions and organisations to develop locally grounded strategies and interventions that respond to the lived realities of places and the people who inhabit them.

Our work spans inclusive city and neighbourhood strategies, community consultation and co-design, creative and participatory mapping, knowledge exchange, spatial equity and accessibility, climate justice, heritage and cultural research, and place-based interventions.

By bringing lived experience and diverse forms of knowledge into research, planning and design processes, we ask whose voices and experiences are represented, whose are missing, and how places and systems might become more responsive. Through this approach, we help our partners create more equitable, accessible, culturally sensitive and environmentally responsive futures, grounded in local knowledge while connected to wider global conversations.
